“10 x CMJ 2011 Beat Recommends: Womp it out with these 10 beatwizards Louisiana-born, Brooklyn-based DJ Lifeone has been hard at work producing for fellow Brooklynite and rapper A.C. With an ear tuned to hip-hop, DJ Lifeone effortlessly mixes rap with the Cure with a little bit of womp and scratch.”

“Hailing from the Dirty Dirty South, Lifeone has rocked parties from Austin to Miami with his mix of hip hop, indie, electro, and funk jams.”

"CMJ Buffet: Artists And Their Spirit Sandwiches Our CMJ artists reveal what sandwich they would be (if they were a sandwich)" Here at CMJ, we ask all the hard-hitting questions to get right to the bottom of what a new artist is all about. That is why we asked CMJ 2011ers to tell us what sandwich they would be, if they were a sandwich. Hey Lifeone—remember the sandwich shop Silas worked at in Weeds? That’s probably Kreayshawn’s favorite sandwich.

Lifeone (Brooklyn, NY): Whatever Kreayshawn’s favorite sandwich is, so she could put me in her mouth. Sorry Mom!"

"shouts to brownsville’s jesus, the big homie, maffew ragazino sr."

Inspired by infamous activist H. Rap Brown, his delivery was no way conforming and neither was it to be taken lightly. Maffew is prepping for his upcoming project and wants you all to get ready! Make space in your hard drives, free up your cloud, get ready to have a new car cd, let your people’s people know… because NY hip-hop is on the rise. Also be sure to go get that Vanderslice Everything’s Amazing - it’s mean!!

new project from the mastermind behind “the notorious xx” - obviously dope.
    obligatory artist statement below
I’ve been listening to a lot of music over the last few months, and during that time, experimenting with tons of new sounds, mixes, and ideas to see what sticks for me. I’ve gotten to try them out live and feel pretty good about some of them, and it’s been awhile since I’ve done a proper release, so here it is, vol1, with songs that remind me of fall.

I’m really looking forward to what’s yet to come: this EP is the start of a series of (loosely) seasonally-themed EPs. Additionally, after/before/during those, I have a full artist v artist album coming out that I’m pretty excited to put out into the world and hear what you think. Stay tuned on Facebook / Twitter / SoundCloud / messenger pigeon to get updates.

Thank you to everyone who listens, who spreads the word, who comes to shows and says hello, and who tells their friends about a song they liked — you’ve allowed me an audience to hear songs I’d otherwise just be alone listening to on headphones, and because of you we get to play shows and go on adventures, so thank you — I appreciate it more than you know.

As for the name, ‘we’re all busy but good’ — I really like the idea of these odd linguistic habits that we hear all the time but rarely see in print — that was the genesis of the ‘wait what’ name in college, and recently, ‘busy but good’ is one that I find myself saying without realizing it. It‘s a strange thing that we do, where we feel like we have to give that subtle implication that what we’ve been doing has been important, but also that we’re handling it well. It rolls off the tongue just as easily to long lost acquaintances as it does to best friends and immediate family members, and I’m not entirely sure why. Hopefully naming this series of EPs after the phrase makes me catch myself from doing it next time.”
